High performance culture, drive thru and 100% clean menu – The athletes behind Athletic Ventures tell why they are backing GYG to reinvent fast food.

Mexican Fast Food giant Guzman y Gomez and Athletic Ventures, founded by GWS Giant Matt de Boer, have revealed which of Australia’s most high profile and top performing athletes have made a significant investment in GYG.

From Wallabies Captain, Michael Hooper, NBA Cleveland Cavalier and Australian Boomer, Matt Dellavedova to Australian Netballer and NSW Swift, Maddy Proud — these are just a few of over 40 elite athletes across AFL & AFLW, NRL, NBA, netball, rugby, cricket, tennis, swimming and surfing who have become GYG shareholders and are getting behind its mission to reinvent fast food.

GYG is unlike any other fast food brand in the world with its 100% *Clean menu made from only the freshest ingredients, brekkie, lunch, dinner, drive thrus and 24/7 trading. After 15 years of countless innovations within the fast food sector and combining high quality food with speed, convenience and value, these athletes are joining the journey as they know the importance of putting real, nutritious meals into their bodies, particularly after a big game.

GYG Founder & CEO Steven Marks said “For years GYG have been feeding athletes their pre and post match meals. Professional teams order with us each week as their nutritionists are incredibly mindful of what theyare eating. When we were approached by Ed Cowan from TDM who is one of our investors saying that we had 40+ athletes who wanted to buy into the brand, how could we say no? Usually brands are begging athletes to endorse their brand and we have the top athletes in the country wanting to come on the journey with us, it’s a real and authentic investment and we wanted nothing in return from the athletes, just for them to enjoy the ride!

The Athletic Ventures athletes who have invested into the GYG brand have joined a tight-knit family and we couldn’t be happier to have them. GYG started as a single restaurant in Newtown in 2006 and has now grown to over 150 restaurants worldwide. We’re changing the way the world views fast food and replacing it with real, nutritious ingredients, made fresh daily and combining it with speed and value — to be the only fast food brand with food that is healthy enough for Australia’s top-performing athletes. At GYG we’ve always done things a little differently and I think it says so much about our brand when Australia’s top athletes here and internationally are prepared invest their money in a brand they believe in”

GWS Giant and Athletic Ventures founder, Matt de Boer on using GYG as recovery meals and high-performance culture:

“Athletes care deeply what they put in their bodies. All of us were already huge GYG fans, with many elite teams serving GYG as their recovery meals on game days. In addition, the high-performance culture that Steven and his team have built makes GYG a natural fit for AV. We are so pleased to be investing in such an aligned business that we can genuinely support and add value to.”

NBA Cleveland Cavalier and Australian Boomer, Matt Dellavedova on GYG’s potential within the US:

“Being an athlete based in the US, I am most excited about GYG’s potential in the US and I can’t wait to see their expansion over here. When the opportunity to invest and be part of the GYG journey came up, I was definitely in. An Australian business taking on the global fast food industry is such a great story but GYG are innovating and fast food that’s made fresh with drive thrus is exactly what a market like the US will love.”

Australian Wallabies Captain, Michael Hooper on why he believes in GYG’s mission and buzz in Japan:

“You can’t help but buy into this GYG brand when you hear Steven talking about the future and the potential of the business globally, it’s seriously impressive. They’re serving up great food that athletes enjoy and they’re doing it with a purpose. I’ve just been playing in Japan and even here, there’s a real buzz about GYG, it’s an exciting time to be a GYG investor”

Australian Netballer and NSW Swift, Maddy Proud on the importance of investing in a brand you believe in:

“I honestly believe in this brand, I’m a regular customer and our team may have been known to frequent our local GYG after many games. It’s always great to be able to invest in a brand or product you use but the energy these guys have is addictive. I love the food and as an athlete, I also need to stay healthy and GYG is the best option when I’m on the road. To be part of the GYG investment family is a really different approach for athletes to put their own money behind a brand they believe in and it’s one I’m incredibly proud to be involved with, I’m excited to see their growth this year and into the future”

Australian & NSW Cricketer & 7 Sport – Presenter, Trent Copeland on GYG’s drive and future direction:

“Kim & I have long been fans of GYG. Fast, healthy, Mexican food, what’s not to like?! Then we had the chance to meet Steven and hear two key things. Firstly, the backstory, passion Steven & the GYG team have about the essence of the business, and the principles that every single restaurant lives by. Secondly, the relentless drive and vision for what lies ahead – not just in Australia, but globally. When you see the fire inside Steven, matched with the quality of food, it really was impossible not to see the growth potential.”

Australian Cricketer & Sydney Sixers Captain, Moises Henriques on GYG’s product:

I invested in GYG simply because I like the product. Whether it’s the in store experience or delivery which I’ve used multiple times – the food is fresh and wholesome. I decided to put some money where my mouth was.”

Australia & NSW Cricketer Kurtis Patterson on GYG as post game recovery:

“As a lover of Mexican food, I instantly fell for Guzman y Gomez the first time I tried it. When the opportunity to invest in GYG through AV came up, it was a simple decision. The food is of the highest quality, tasty and convenient. It is regularly the meal of choice for me and my teammates after a day of cricket. I look forward to being a part of the GYG/Athletic Ventures partnership in the years to come.”

Advanced Sports Dietitian and Co-Founder of the Health and Performance Collective Jessica Spendlove on why Fast Food by GYG is the perfect pre and post recovery meal for elite athletes:

“Here at the Health and Performance Collective, our role is to ensure elite athletes and teams reach peak performance in their chosen sport. Food and nutrition play an integral role in all aspects of an athlete’s health and performance, and honestly there aren’t many choices available, which are as healthy, fast and convenient as GYG. We recommend GYG both as pre and post-match meals to our athletes and professional teams because their food ticks all of our boxes – it’s both nutritious and delicious! GYG is prepared fresh daily, it’s clean and contains the correct type of good quality carbohydrates, proteins and vegetables across the menu. Importantly all our athletes from juniors right up to the professionals love the taste of GYG and still feel great after eating it.”
