Baringa, What an Opening!

Baringa, what an opening to remember! A massive thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of our brand-new Guzman y Gomez restaurant.

Despite the rainfall, the Baringa community showed up! The energy was high from brekkie until dinner, with the Mariachi band keeping the celebration going all day long. GYG merch and prizes were handed out during the day, with guests walking away with GYG sports balls and socks.   

School kids came in before and after school, along with local service workers. Franchisees Brooke and Steve have a close relationship with the local police and firefighters through their GYG Caloundra restaurant. The Drive-Thru line was busy all day, from morning through to lunch and during dinner peaks, with people in good spirits waiting for their favourite GYG burritos and bowls.    

Leading opening day were franchisees Brooke and Steve Green, both having called the Sunshine Coast home for over 40 years. They joined GYG in 2022 and took over GYG Caloundra in early 2025. Baringa marks Brooke and Steve’s second GYG restaurant and their very first Grand Opening and $5 day. Their eldest daughter Billi, has stepped up as Assistant Restaurant Manager of GYG Baringa, having previously served as Assistant Restaurant Manager at GYG Caloundra.   

The community has always been at the heart of what Brooke and Steve do. Through GYG Caloundra, the family already supports local AFL, hockey, netball and soccer clubs.   

“Opening GYG Baringa is a huge moment for our family,” said Brooke and Steve. “We’ve been part of this community our whole lives and to now be opening a restaurant right in the heart of the community – a place that’s growing so fast and is full of young families just like ours – feels very special.”  

“I’m proud to say my parents own GYG,” said Billi. “It’s fresh, it’s good food, and it’s a brand you genuinely want to be part of.”   

The opening of GYG Baringa has created 80 local jobs, with many of the Baringa team being locals. Many of them are juniors who live and go to school within walking distance of the restaurant.   

The support from the GYG network on opening day was incredible. Franchisees came from right across the South-East Queensland network, stretching as far south as the Gold Coast and all the way to their Sunshine Coast patch. Corporate operations were also in attendance with crew leads and coaches on hand to help on the day.  

Baringa locals were so pleased on opening day to have their very own GYG right on their doorstep and no longer have to drive further into the Sunshine Coast to grab their GYG favourites.   

A huge shout-out to our amazing Baringa team. Your dedication, teamwork, and outstanding service made the opening day unforgettable! Your positivity and hard work ensured every guest had a fantastic experience. 🙌
