At GYG it’s all about amazing food and people. We also want to honour the Mexican culture that has given us so much!

That’s why this Thursday, 2nd November, GYG is hosting a huge party in our restaurants for Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos). Day of the Dead is a multi-day, happy and colourful celebration where death is honoured and the deceased are remembered and enticed back to celebrate the joys of life! This holiday is also declared an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation), meaning it encompasses practices, expression, and knowledge by communities from generation to generation). Day of the Dead is a holiday GYG has celebrated since the beginning and is a special holiday we share across the whole business!

At GYG, the crew are the heart and the soul of who we are which is why this year, we asked our crew to design our Day of the Dead design to be printed on hundreds of crew t-shirts and specially designed key chains (which you could be lucky enough to win)! We received over 50 designs from our talented crew – we found one that took the GYG experience and created a unique design. one we think you’re all going to love!

This year’s design takes inspiration from our Guzman y Gomez logo, menu items, and culturally significant emblems of Mexican culture. This year’s GYG Day of the Dead Design embodies everything that we love at GYG! Pay close attention to the details on crew shirts or a key ring at your local GYG on Thursday and you might be able to spot some of your fave GYG items (hint: there’s a $3 taco somewhere on there.)!

Beyond the epic t-shirts though, Day of the Dead is an opportunity for family and friends to gather together, share stories, and celebrate the lives of their loved ones and at GYG we want to show our guests how we celebrate! You’ll find our crew with intricate face paintings and alters (las ofrendas) set up in a restaurant to welcome home the souls of the deceased.

We hope to see you celebrating with us at your local GYG! See you there 🙂
