Thomastown, that opening was incredible! A huge thank you to everyone who showed up and made the opening of our brand-new Guzman y Gomez Thomastown restaurant one to remember.
The Thomastown community truly showed up! The opening celebration was huge, with GYG Thomastown ranking in the top 5 highest burritos and bowls sold on a $5 opening day. Despite the rain making an appearance throughout the day, guests did not stop coming through the doors for their $5 burrito or bowl.
The Mariachi Band was a big hit, with guests enjoying the music and some guests breaking into dance while waiting for their GYG favourites. The energy stayed high from the morning rush right into evening, with locals excited about their brand new GYG restaurant.
Leading opening day was franchisee Tim Westaway, one of Melbourne’s most experienced GYG franchisees with nine years in the business. From his first GYG on Swanston Street in the CBD to Campbellfield Plaza in the north, Thomastown is the next chapter and a personal one.
“We live in the north and we love this part of Melbourne,” said Tim Westaway. “We’ve been serving great Mexican food up here through Campbellfield for years, and opening Thomastown means we can reach even more locals who deserve a fast-food option they can actually feel good about.”
Community was front and centre for Thomastown on opening day. Located next to several local businesses that were keen for their local GYG to open. The crew delivered free coffee and flyers to the local businesses in the area and personally invited them in for lunch. It was great to see them visit at lunch and even score some GYG socks to take home!
The opening of GYG Thomastown is brining 100 jobs to Melbourne’s North, with 20 experienced crew joining from GYG Campbellfield plaza and 80 brand new team members hired locally from the surrounding community.
The support from across the GYG network on opening day was incredible, with crew and fellow franchisees all helping to make the day a success.
